Off season: Teams/Managers can pay $x amount to retro-actively protect one player from IR if they do expect that player to return to the lineup.  (forecasting injuries) (I think we're tabling this to next year since its a little complicated and requires a lot of discussion)  (Tabled this to the off season)

What's the financial penalty/recourse for breaking known rules? (If you're gonna waste my time, I'm gonna spend your money, penalties start at $20, $30, $40, then fuck you $80)

Something forgot to bring up, same financial humility will take place if you lose to the vampire during the regular season.  Pay $10 to the pot and $10 to the vampire.  We will want to adjust this upward next season.

The Premise

One owner is selected as the vampire and has to build their team from the waiver wire.  No other team has access to the waiver wire during the season (exceptions below).  Most head-to-head games during the season follow rules in standard yahoo leagues.  The one exception is when you are facing the vampire.  If the vampire wins they can select any player from the losing team’s starting lineup.  This is how the vampire builds up his team during the season.  Once the playoffs are set, everyone has access to the waiver wire and head-to-head matchups are all equal (the vampire can no longer steal a player).

$75 dollar buy-in

Previous Vampires have an opportunity to be selected again

Payout for 2023-24 season is as follows: 70/20/10

The Draft and Roster Setup

The only difference from a normal draft is that the vampire does not take part.  The league commissioner will temporarily adjust the Vampire's team prior to the draft so that he does not select any players that anyone would realistically want.  After the draft has concluded owners are allowed to adjust their rosters with access to waivers or edits by the league commissioner in order to make up for errors or auto-drafts (likely a day or 2) and then the vampire may begin to construct his team from the remaining undrafted players.

Starting Lineup: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, RE/WR/TE, K, DEF

Selection of Draft Position

Obviously reverse order of finish promotes tanking, so instead we can take the 12 teams, split them into 2 groups and managers can pick their draft position from there.  So for example 7th places has first draft position pick, 8th place picks draft position second, 9th place is third, 10th, 11th, 12th, then it reverts to 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st.  So based off of last years finish it would be: J. Truett, Ralph, Bryce, Hai, Justin, PJ, Curtis Truett, Bitzer, Smock, Trever, Brink, Nate.  This has been successful in other leagues as it still promotes fairness and obviously different managers prefer different draft positions.

Selecting the Vampire

Picking the vampire will be a live recorded processes using 'Wheel of Names' or a like free service. Results will be posted here as well. Again the vampire will not need to be active for the draft as their team will be automatically picked for them until after the draft.  After the draft has taken place and the rosters have been settled for any auto draft teams, the Vampire fills their roster from whichever free agents are left.

(Managers have the opportunity to increase their vampire chances by paying an additional $15 per chance, with a maximum of two additional bids)

Facing the Vampire

This is where this format gets interesting.  If you lose to the vampire during the regular season, the vampire is allowed to take one player from your starting lineup, thus forcing a trade.  A text request to the commissioner is usually the best way to do this.  When facing the Vampire you can choose to bench one or more of your studs to avoid losing them, however you must field a complete starting lineup with no empty slots, players on a bye, players designated as “IR” or “out” (unless you can’t due to roster limitations).  In the case where there is a vacant or invalid starter (and if the vampire wins), the vampire is allowed to take a player from the bench that could rightfully have been used in that roster spot.  Losers are required to pay $10 to the pot and $10 to the vampire.

*If you are going to bench your stud players, you must complete your lineup one hour prior to games starting on game day to allow the Vampire to adjust his starting lineup accordingly.

Waiver Wire

This is the realm of the vampire; the undead shall we say.  No other owners are allowed to pluck the undead from the waiver wire during the regular season.  Financial penalties or additional penalties will be incurred for anyone using the wire if you are not the Vampire.  Even if you got drunk and accidently picked someone up, you will be penalized.  Ain't nobody got time for that!

Trades

Unlike most leagues where trades are rare, this is what can drive this league.  Trades are often the most exciting part of any league.  You can obviously trade with any other owner, however, the vampire has the biggest pool of players at his disposal, no trades with the vampire will be allowed.  All trades will be subject to a (48 hour review period) in which the league can vote to approve or deny such trades.
